Missing the Simple Things from Back Home

After receiving our first power bill (and calming down a bit), it’s definitely more of a “green” lifestyle here for us. If $500 doesn’t get your attention, then I don’t know what will. The windows that give us the breathtaking view of the bay seem to be a huge part of our energy problem. Quite frankly, it gets COLD! We were leaving the heat on for most of the day, and definitely during the night. Even with the heat on during the night, I have to wear two layers of clothing with socks, and occasionally a jacket. My side of the bed is near – yes, you guess it – the window. Now, the heat gets turned off right when we get up, and turned on right before bed time. During the day we stay warm the old fashioned way – lots of layers and lots of hugs! Another factor to our massive bill – the dryer. One load of clothes would need two full drying cycles to do just that – DRY! That’s a grand total of four hours… for one load. Now, one load gets 30 minutes in the dryer and a couple of days of air drying in the living room. It sure is an eye opener!
