Three sisters, Meehni, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo, lived in the Jamison Valley as Katoomba tribe members. They had fallen in love with three brothers from a neighboring tribe, the Nepean, but tribal law forbade them to marry. The three brothers were furious with this decision, and planned to take the sisters from their tribe. This caused a major tribal battle, putting the sisters in great danger. The Katoomba tribe’s medicine man decided to turn them to stone to protect their lives. He would turn them back after the war was over. Unfortunately the medicine man himself was killed in battle leaving the sisters in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.
