I Swear We Are in Chicago

Around 2 AM, I leap up from the bed. Someone is trying to break into the apartment! I think I have forgotten to lock the door to the patio, and someone is trying to come in. They sure are being noisy about it though. The door is rattling with such force. These were my thoughts one night about a week ago. I gained enough courage to walk into the living room. No burglar, just the wind! When it’s windy, it’s like hurricane gusts. It shakes and rattles the windows and patio door as if they are going to fly off! It was windy yesterday (July 1st) and today, Wednesday July 2nd. Yesterday we decided to try out the heated pool located on the first floor of our apartment complex. We were so excited to get a bit of a summer activity in the heart of winter here. Our pool time did not last long. Mason could not touch the bottom at the shallow end (it came up to his nose, and wanted me to hold him up which I could not do since Morgan can’t swim). But we improvised. There was a spa, and we spent our time in there. Ten to 15 minutes in, and after seeing Mason’s skin turn red, it would be another 5 minutes out to cool off. We did this routine for about an hour. The kids had a blast though. After lunch we decided to venture out into Milsons Point. I needed to go to the Post Office, and thought the kids would like some playground time. The minute we stepped outside, we were hit with a full gust of wind. We could not even move. The kids loved it – Morgan especially. She kept squealing with excitement saying, “I’m flying, I’m flying!” We were all giggling about, and struggling to walk against the wind. We so looked like tourists because it didn’t affect any of the locals. It was like it wasn’t even windy. I was impressed. We still ran our errand, and spent time at the playground. I was ready to go back about 5 minutes at the park, but hung on for the kids. They had meet two kids their ages, a boy and a girl, and were having so much fun. It’s windy again today, and we plan to stay inside. Hopefully tomorrow the winds will die down so we can venture out.
