Our First Day in Sydney

After being in our new apartment for about 30 seconds, we realized it was time to go shopping. Even though the apartment is furnished, we still had to supply some of our own necessities… pillows, sheets, and towels. We were surprised to see no toilet paper anywhere in our new home (especially after our long journey). So, we decided to check out the local Target (which by the way for fellow Brandon citizens – is located in the Westfield shopping mall – same company as the one for the Brandon Square Mall)! First we got lunch – Mason and Morgan’s first meal in Australia was at Hungry Jack’s (There version of Burger King.) Then we took a train to a local mall. There stores are not free standing like back home. They are inside three to five story malls and train stations – including Target. OK – fellow Target shoppers – the following details maybe too hard to read, reading discretion is advised!!! I was so disappointed. I felt as if I had time warped back to 1989/1990 too. The styles were straight from that time period, and I’m not talking about merchandise with an updated 80’s/90’s look. I mean clothes that were probably made in early 90s. The best way to describe it – Target is like K-Mart but with Macy prices. With two kids’ comforter covers, sheets (1 double, 2 twins), four pillows, and four towels – all of which were the cheapest we could find (and were either 20 to 50% off on top of the lowest prices they had) our grand total came out to be $350! Needless to say we were shocked. We were zonked by the time we got back (we also had to stop by Scott’s work and the bank), we still didn’t have groceries. Our first dinner in Sydney – McDonalds – but it wasn’t cheap! What would normally cost us $15 was double – yes, 35 dollars! By the time we got home and set up, the time was 8 PM – we had been up since 5 PM (on the plane) Sydney time – 27 hours straight. In fact, Morgan literally fell asleep while eating – half way through a chicken nugget. (Where was my camera?) We got the kids to bed, and then I finally decided to put the sheets on our bed – the fitted sheet would not fit! We were livid, but all in all still happy to be in Australia for the experience.
