After our culture shock from yesterday, we decided to treat ourselves to what kids had been dying to see – The Harbor Bridge and The Sydney Opera House. It’s located right outside Circular Quay (pronounced “key”). Words cannot describe its beauty. It was here that Mason said his “Australia is like Disney World…” quote. And it is the truth – there is lots of walking involved… with hills. (I’m in so much trouble when I start running here.) One thing that surprised me – there are not a lot of tourists. I expected more people around, but was grateful for the ladder. After exploring a bit, we left for Scott’s office for two main things – research internet companies (which you know all about) and to order groceries online. Woolworth – yes, the same company that went out of business in the US, is a grocery store chain here, comparable to Publix. Again, prices were a shock, and never in my life have I ever spent so much time selecting groceries. Everything is labeled differently – and the product may look similar but with a different name. For example – Rice Crispies, Rice Bubbles – Raisin Bran – Sultana Bran, Fries are chips, chips are chips and/or crisps (that gets confusing), All detergent – Surf. I’ll try to have a grocery blog with all the differences sometime in the future. After an hour of online grocery shopping, we got word of a Coles (So weird – Kohl’s for clothes, Coles for food.) grocery store being in a train station outside of Scott’s work (OK – another frustrating thing – not a lot of signage for businesses as well as numbers on buildings when you need to find one.) So, we decided to check it out and ended up buying a few more things. It’s no easy task getting items back home with two kids in tow. Both of our hands were full (including Mason’s) and poor Morgan gets cold feet when she sees an escalator. I was unable to grab her hand when we approached one going home. Next thing I hear is screaming because she didn’t get on. Without missing a beat, a young woman (early 20’s) on the cell phone grabs her hand and helps her down. We couldn’t thank her enough – she smiled, nodded, and continued on… still talking on the cell phone.
