School events at Northlake Park Elementary can become quite crazy when the invite is for the entire student population. Thankfully Kindergarten students’ time frame was from 2 to 3, an hour before the rest of the grade levels. I had no problem finding a parking space, and no need to check to see who Morgan had for her teacher. Two days ago, Morgan received a postcard from Ms. Heiselman welcoming my little girl to her class! YEAH! I am SO looking forward to another year with such an amazing teacher! We were also happy to see quite a few familiar faces from preschool. Ms. Heiselman wasted no time with assignments. Morgan was busy coloring her first picture of the school year. Once her “work” was complete, it was off to meet up with one of my good friends, Teppi, in the lobby who had offered to take Morgan home with her daughter, Joey, for a play date. Since Scott was not back from Baltimore yet, I gladly and graciously took it!

This time I had to maneuver through the masses to the bulletin board where the students’ names were posted. I had NO clue who Mason’s new teacher would be, but within a few minutes I found “Ms. Barnes” by his name with the room number 316. I had horrible high school flash backs as we aimlessly attempted to find his new room. On the third try, we managed to discover it. Mason seemed to be OK with everything. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, so much so that all the questions and comments I ran over and over in my mind were gone. So much for getting a head start! Before leaving the room, my son got to sit in his new seat and explore all four corners of the room while I constantly interrupted him for photo ops. Before heading home, we still needed to stop in the cafeteria for transportation signs. By this time, it was a zoo, and we rushed to book it out of there ASAP. I am still in shock that BOTH of my babies are in elementary school. I am so excited for M & M and wish them both an exciting and fun school year. And Teppi, you my dear friend, are a life saver! I owe you!

I used to LOVE back to school. The excitement of meeting the new teacher, seeing the room so fresh and clean and colorful. I esp always loved the bulletin boards.
