Operation Reformation

The two year plan officially starts tomorrow. “Unofficially” this project was launched in June of 2006 with Phase One: the realization of being Morgan’s main female role model. I had allowed stress and emotional eating to take over my life. My daughter saved me. This started the Couch to 5K program, running races and lifting weights. Phase Two was activated in May of this year with two additional realizations: 1. Due to our Australian sabbatical, clothes were too tight. And 2. I’m tired of crooked teeth. So it began on May 16th with learning the importance of counting calories, choosing the right foods and setting a reasonable weight loss goal as well as applying a medieval torture device to my teeth. Seven months ago, the weight loss goal was for 20 pounds. When I stepped on the scale this morning, I did not reach the goal, I had surpassed it. I normally do not share information like this, but wanted to let anyone out there who is just beginning this journey or struggling to stay on the path, if I can do it - YOU can do it! Tomorrow starts Phase Three: the realization that I am two years from turning 40. I’ve got seven hundred and thirty-one days to remold, reshape, reprogram and improve this body, mind and soul. Because if there is one thing I have learned through this on-going operation, is that it’s not about just losing the weight – it’s all about changing your life style. You just can’t exercise and think all is OK. Believe me; the weight will sneak itself back on to your body. You can’t just cut back on food, starve yourself and/or try every fad diet out there as well as eat less without working out. And to be successful, you must reprogram your mind, to love the way you look no matter what shape and size you are. The main goal is to get healthy in all areas of your life. The next phase in Operation Reformation will be the last 5 to 10 pounds of the weight loss goal, toning what I can and saving money to pay a doctor to tone what I can’t! (And any extra money will be spent on putting body parts back where they should be!) But more importantly it will be working on reprogramming my brain to love and accept who I am, to focus more on the positive things in life and reconnecting my soul with my Savior. A very special thanks to my husband for supporting me throughout all of this (which is another thing I have learned – support is crucial to success). If you need a support buddy, just let me know! I’m here for you!

It is well said...

Wow! Beautiful before and after photos...and you are so right about loving yourself every step of the way.
I'm ahead of you in age, but far behind you on this one--I did lose the weight, etc. years ago--and put it all back on.
My "big" Christmas gift (that I asked for) this year was a membership to a wonderful gym that is near us, and workout clothes. I know that it's going to take a lifestyle change, and at my age health is a big factor. Having had surgery on both feet plus one bum knee means I will have to start out with something very low impact, but I hope that one day before 2010 is out I will run again. (My feet and knee demand that some of this weight come off first!)
Thanks for the honesty and inspiration! Morgan certainly has a wonderful role model to look up to!
