End of the Season

You know, I thought flag football was going to be an easy and safe way for Mason to learn the sport. Little did I know that the rules for flag are much different than tackle. And after seeing this season, I have learned it is much more dangerous too. At least you have pads when playing football because in flag, whether they mean to or not, there is some hard hitting contact! A couple of times I thought for sure Mason was hurt bad. Thankfully Morgan only wanted to play center or I would have pulled her out. Their team, The Gators, had a great season despite the fact they were the only newbies in their league. The age requirement for this division is 5 to 6 year olds unless it was a child’s first time playing, hence why Mason and Morgan were able to be in the same age category. The remaining three teams’ players had 40 to 70% at the ripe ole’ age of 8, including each child having two to three years of experience of playing the game under their flag football belt. To add insult to injury, parents with 8 year olds from the opposing team would question if Mason was eligible to play in the age bracket. Our little team did their best, and managed to at least put some points on the board. A very special thanks to our three coaches: John Wilkerson, Tommy Fazio and Chad Thomas. Their patience and dedication were truly amazing! We are grateful for their long and difficult hours training this group of kids. As far as Morgan was concerned there was only one coach for her, and it was Coach Chad. She would smile and giggle at just the mere mention of his name. Another special thanks to Michelle Thomas (Chad’s wife) for putting up with another female in her husband’s life! LOL! The team enjoyed their end of the season party filled with pizza, soda and cupcakes. Mason and Morgan were really excited to get their trophy (which looks like a bowler trying to do the Heisman pose). All in all it was a great experience for our little M & M’s! We look forward to next season when Mason will play and Morgan will cheer for the Lake Nona League. GO Lions!
