Casting Call for the Role of Gingerbread Man…

One the first day of school, Morgan’s Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Heiselman, had the Gingerbread Man “show up”. She literally had someone dressed up in the suit and peek through the window. The kids LOVED it! Below is the note she e-mailed to parents to explain what she has planned for Mr. Gingerbread Man. Thank you SO much to all who have auditioned for the role. You all got the part!!! Not only are you going to make a classroom full of Kindergarteners VERY happy, but will teach them geography as well. And from a former social studies teacher… well, that just melts my heart!

Dear Families,

On the first day of school, our class had a very special visitor, the GINGERBREAD MAN! He came right before PE and promised us he would talk to us all about NorthLake Park when we got back. That speedy, sneaky Gingerbread Man wasn’t in our classroom when we got back and he lead us on a chase all through the school trying to find him. Finally, when we got back to our classroom, he had left us some delicious gingerbread cookies and juice and a note that promised he would write to us to let us know where he was and how he was doing (maybe he’d even come visit us again one day)! I’d like to ask for your help in keeping this adventure alive and exciting for our students. If you have relatives in different parts of the country or world, are going on a vacation or have friends/family that are going on vacation, please have them send a postcard from that location, written as if they were our friend the Gingerbread Man. Examples include notes that say,

“I’m in Chicago and thinking of you all. Chicago is often called the ‘Windy City!’ I’ve seen lots of tall buildings and I’m learning all about the Great Lakes. Please ask Ms. Heiselman to tell you some more things about Chicago! See you soon!

Your Friend,

The Gingerbread Man.

Please feel free to forward this email to all of your family, friends, coworkers, etc. and ask for their help in making this part of our Kindergarten adventure memorable. Thanks!
