Today’s theme: Déjà vu. Two years ago I was decorating the same stage, the same tables… the same cafeteria for the YMCA Preschool graduation for Mason. Today it is for Morgan. For the past month a group of us Pre-K parents had meetings and projects tallying up to this very moment. Everyone was intent on making this the best graduation ever! Tonight’s theme: The Future’s So Bright, They’ve Got To Wear Shades. During one of the meetings, I asked the parent responsible for the music if she was going to need to wipe off the dust on her cassettes to find her Timbuk3 tape. The confused look on her face confirmed the fact that (1) she is too young to know our grad them is actually an 80’s song and (2) I’m old! I was unable to stay very long for the decorating process. There were things I still needed to do. Even with all of the graduation hoopla, in the back of my mind I knew the inevitable was approaching. It was time to back the kids’ backpacks, making sure to have toys and movies for them to watch for the next few days. My parents were on their way for the special occasion, but to also take our M & M’s home with them to Tampa so I can recover from the extraction surgery going on tomorrow morning. Thank goodness for the graduation distraction, and thank goodness for my parents!
The ceremony promptly started at 6:20 with a slideshow of baby photos to the song “Let Them Be Little” by Lonestar. What a tear jerker! Shortly after, all the graduates came marching through, then sang a few songs before receiving their diplomas and rings. Poor Morgan was unable to finish the festivities. She missed out on dinner and lots of dancing, but you know… she did not care one bit! Both Mason and Morgan could not wait to jump into PawPaw & Nonnie’s car. In fact, Mason was all buckled in his seat before the car was even loaded. And then they were off – as we waved good-bye it hit me that the déjà vu of this exact moment will occur yet again, 11 and 13 years from now. And instead of our M & M’s leaving for a few days, they will be heading off to their future … their big, oh so bright, shades included future. We are proud of you, Morgan! Congratulations, 2009 Grad! We love you and your brother so much.
PS: A VERY Special Thank You to Mrs. Barretto & Mrs. Ortiz!
You both are two wonderful teachers who will be highly missed!
The Graduation March
Our Favorite Song of the Night! Warning: It's the entire song... focused just on our little grad and her friends. Please do not feel obligated to watch the entire video. Enjoy and Rock On!
* "Morgan, you need to get your brain into my brain!" - Mason (trying to order his sister around!)
* "Where is the whooshie tooter?" - Morgan (to Mason) * "How do you use the force?" - Mason (to Mommy)
* "Mommy, where is Daddy?" He is cleaning his room. (Without missing a beat and with a surprised face) "I didn't know that Daddy had toys too!" - Morgan
* I am not on your team! I am a princess fairy! - Morgan (to Mason)
* My new name is Walking Brain. - Mason
* Do you know those guys, the ones who wear makeup, but not girl make up, boy make up, with the black and the white... (referring to KISS) - Morgan
* (After coming from the garage) I check back and forth to see where the spiders are. They are like the cars and I am like the person walking across the street. I have to be careful. - Mason
* One of Morgan's classmates says, "I have been to Disney on Ice!" Morgan's reply, "Well, I have been to Disney on Land!" - Morgan
