You'll Walk The Plank If You Don't Listen!

My mom made sure I was “carbed up” for the race by fixing an amazing breakfast. It was also a nice treat to visit with my brother, Matthew, that morning. We were unable to visit with my sister and her crew because they were sick. We took it easy up until around 3:30 before leaving to check into the Courtyard Marriot downtown. It is about a half mile walk to the start line. People kept asking me if I was nervous about the race, especially since it is the first one I have done on my own. The only thing making me nervous was how I would reach the start line. On Google maps, the distance looked to be a dangerous one. Not too sure of how safe the streets were at 5 AM gave me anxiety. After we checked in, Scott left to visit an old college friend and to receive a birthday massage from a very talented masseuse, my brother – Matthew, at the spa he works for. The kids so desperately wanted to play in the hotel room, but I was bound and determined to find where Platt and Parker streets were located. That would be the official start line. It took almost thirty minutes to reach Platt, but I could not find Parker. I asked several people on the street – all of which being tourists – so no help. I gave up. I figured since I found the Publix on Platt, I should be fine. Publix is one of the main sponsors. During this walk-about, the kids were making all sorts of friends along the way – with the homeless! Not that I have anything against them, you just don’t know their background – and well, Morgan especially kept talking to each one she encountered. I thought for sure we were going to be in some sort of altercation. We managed back to the hotel safe and sound. Later that evening I took the kids for burgers at Five Guys. Scott came back just in time to help me put the kids to bed. Lights were out at 9:30 PM.
