BUSTED - Twice!

While pinning on the Batman Birthday Hero ribbon to his school shirt, I explained to Mason, “When someone says “Happy Birthday”, don’t say it’s not, just say thank you. Think of it as a double birthday.” Tomorrow we celebrate his big day (#7) at Disney, and having cupcakes at school is still a big deal. So, we decided to celebrate with his classmates today. The first person to see Mason’s birthday pin was Mrs. Wagner, the school principal. Feeling confident of Mason’s response, I stepped back to witness the interaction. I think all Mason heard from my speech this morning was “Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah – Double Birthday!” Without missing a beat, Mason goes to explain that he is having a double birthday, and tomorrow we will not be at school because he will be eating cake and opening presents (thank goodness he did not mention Disney). She smiled and talked about how her daughter likes to celebrate for a week. All I could think of was, great – guess I can’t use sickness as an excuse in his note on Monday. I wonder if Personal Family Business will work. ;-)

Mrs. Mills was so kind to allow me to come in to her classroom at 10:30 this morning. Normally birthday celebrations would be in the afternoon, but today was extremely busy for her crew. Mason even got a chance to deliver Ms. Heiselman, his Kindergarten teacher from last year, a cupcake and see a few of his neighborhood friends. (Wish I could show you his classmates, but school policy does not allow me to take photos of the students, especially for blogging.) As a special additional treat, I stayed to eat lunch with Mason. As we walked into the cafeteria I totally forgot Morgan’s class would be there too. The minute she saw me her lip could have touched the floor. Busted again! I promised Morgan a special lunch together on her birthday as well. (I’ve got to learn to be a bit stealthier! – LOL)
