You can’t go to Memphis without stopping at the birthplace of Rock –n- Roll, Sun Studio. Thanks to a talented music producer named Sam Phillips, it was here where Elvis recorded the song “That’s Alright” which launched him into stardom. Other famous artists recorded here as well: Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Roy Orbison to name a few. U2 recorded two songs from their Rattle and Hum album in this legendary place as well. The studio still operates today. For $30, you too can cut a single. Thanks to X’s on the floor, everyone had the chance to stand exactly where Elvis stood when he recorded his first hit. The black and white photos on the wall spoke volumes of the history made in that room. This was by far our most favorite stop. Side Note: Souvenirs here were very reasonable, unlike Graceland.
