“Charting” Their Course

I don’t know if this will be of any help to struggling moms out there, but thought I would share it anyway. If your children are anything like mine, they are constantly asking for items they desire and places they long to go. Using their wishes and desires as motivation, I devised a chart to plot their course of action for proper behavior. There are five opportunities during the day to achieve a sticker: Morning, School, Afternoon, Evening, and Bonus for Mason (A category for the little man to work on – as of right now, it’s being kind and helpful to his sister.) – Dry for Morgan (Our little princess has regressed to having accidents at least once a day.). To earn a sticker, all they need to do is make the right choices, to listen and have a good report from school. At the end of the week, based on how many stickers they have earned will determine any special activity or the lack there of – the loss of a toy or privilege. If they have earned all five stickers for a day, then another sticker is placed on a separate calendar to show their achievement. Once they have earned at least 80% of the total number of stickers they can achieve in a month, a special treat will be rewarded. Mason has his heart set on The Fun Spot (Go-carts). I personally like it for assessing the week, to see where and what we are struggling with on a daily basis. It’s in the early stages of development – so I’ll keep you posted. As for now, the mere mention of the word “sticker” invokes immediate focus and attention!
