No Thanksgiving Day Parades

We opted out of the traditional Macy’s extravaganza to “parade” around Washington, DC. For those of you who have never been and plan to go, I highly suggest going to the Washington Monument first thing to get your free tickets. It’s a first come, first serve basis as well as what time to come back. We arrived at the counter by 8:45 AM and the next available time was noon. To occupy our time until our turn, we walked to the White House, the World War II Memorial, and did a bit of souvenir shopping. (Another tip – the merchandise they sell off the side of the road is definitely the best route to go!) There were more people than what we had expected on this bright, beautiful and COLD turkey day. I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like in January when there will be no room to move for the inauguration. The Washington Monument is a must see… unless you are afraid of heights and elevators. We enjoyed seeing the views from the top, yet by now we were very hungry. It was time for lunch.
