Another Sydney Excursion

It is so important to get a good breakfast before starting the day. There’s a restaurant open 24/7 (Woo-who!) called Pancakes on the Rocks. Many people have raved over the place, even though it is also a hot tourist spot. It is located near the Rocks, an area near Circular Quay, and a quick walk from Scott’s office. Our mission was to get all of us there at a reasonable time before hunger pains turned us all into monsters. After googling the location, we realized it should be right near the Harbour Bridge. Our thoughts, “Why not walk the bridge?” The kids rebelled over the thought of not eating cereal right after crawling out of their warm cozy beds, but thoughts of syrup changed their minds quickly. Scott and I were sure the kids would dislike our decision to walk across the bridge. Instead they challenged me to a race which clearly proved how out of shape I am. At the end of the bridge we took the walking tunnel underneath it to reach our destination. I was immediately horrified by the vision I saw. Talk about leaving your mark.

I’m a germ freak, a bit on the OCD side, and to see all of those shoe and foot prints covering the wall sent shivers down my spine. I was so disgusted, and within seconds I was already yelling for the kids NOT to touch the walls! After walking around a bit, finding Fish on the Rocks restaurant, we asked for directions. Surprise, surprise, yet again, our online directions were not accurate. Heading back towards the bridge, we came across questionable Aussie art. Not a fan of it, but it is interesting.

When we did not recognize where we were, again we needed to ask for directions. It was now an hour past the time we left. My monster metamorphosis was emerging. Scott was hanging in there. The kids were brilliant! The way back on track just had to be what I was fearing… the stairs right behind us… a steep fifty plus steps to pancake heaven. I couldn’t wait. On the bright side, we were earning the right to eat those high calorie breakfast treats. The restaurant was nestled inside a shopping arcade. I don’t know how we managed to see it. The sign was so small. Funny how sharp the senses can be when basic human needs are at risk. Below is the entrance to the restaurant and the line can get much longer than that!

Thankfully we were only third in line. Service there was OK, food was good, but the atmosphere reminded us of Skeeters, another 24 hour breakfast place in Gainesville, Florida (Go Gators!) which no longer exists. The prices were reasonable, and overall it was a good experience. The kids LOVED it. Some of the children menu specials…

And Banana Milk

By the way, that’s not butter on their pancakes… that’s ice-cream! And yes, they both had a serious sugar high.
