I am new to the dance world.
After watching a few season of “So You Think You Can Dance”, I felt compelled to introduce our children to this wonderful and creative culture of movement.
As you have seen in past posts, Mason and Morgan have been exposed to the urban side of dance: Hip Hop.
After viewing their progress, Scott and I both realized that at this time our little dancers did not have enough soul and funk to pull this style of dancing off.
Mason had been begging for months to add tap to our insane schedule, and when I found out I could switch them from Hip Hop to Tap without any problems, we went for it.
In Motion Dance Project has a tap shoe bin for beginners.
Morgan was able to find a pair to borrow, but Mason did not.
The Dancewear Corner is where IMDP sends their students, and so we followed suit.
With my future Billy Elliot with me and the name of the shoe from the dance company’s website, off we went to purchase his new shoes.
I gave the sales person the information as well as explaining how Mason was so excited about taking tap for the first time.
When I asked about the price, she quickl

y said that the amount was not on the box.
When she rang them up and announced $88.80, I was shocked, but kept telling myself that dance shoes are just expensive.
I took the receipt, folded it and placed it in my purse.
As the day went on, I could not stop thinking about the price.
After posting a status update in regards to this issue and through the responses, I finally realized what had happened.
The shoe recommended on IMDP site is for competition, not for class.
When I opened up the receipt and saw the words “All Sales Are Final”, I was shocked yet again.
Thankfully I was able to exchange them for a $30 pair, but will have to go back to The Dancewear Corner in order to use the remaining credit.
And I am thankful the credit does not expire.
Once it does, I will never go back to that store again.
When I told the same sales person what had happened, she said “Oh, I just thought he was on the dance competition team.”
Yes, really?
After I told her it was his first time.
Yes, I was taken advantage of, and I also love how she explained the return policy while I was there as well.
No signs were posted, nor did she explain anything.
I know I should have been more inquisitive, and I have learned my lesson.
I hope by writing this that anyone who needs to buy dance shoes will know what to do.
Good news – both kids LOVE tap!

Oh Goodness Stef! I feel so bad! I should have been there with you when you bought them!
Oh no! I would be MAD.
Can't wait to see pics/video of their new moves.
