“Goofy”-ness RUNS in the family!

After packing up and checking out, Melanie and I spent a few hours with our kids at Animal Kingdom. During our last day together we had a serious talk. A few weeks before the race, Scott asked if I was seriously considering running the Goofy. It’s a race challenge Disney offers for those goofy enough to run the half and full marathons back to back. During training I swore not to run another marathon after this one. Training was rough. I promised him I would not. During the race at mile 25, Melanie asked the same question. I honestly did not think she was serious, and quickly said, “NO!” After crossing the finish line and seeing my time, I thought, “I know I could do better.” Throughout the rest of the day, I continued to see many runners with goofy shirts and medals which continued to fuel the fire of desire. Finally at the end of race day I asked Scott if he would be upset with me if I wanted to run the Goofy. Without missing a beat, he supported me, but on one condition. After the half marathon, NO PARKS – just rest. No arguments here, plus I threw in – NO kids. So, back to the serious talk – I told Melanie I DID want to run the Goofy. Within minutes she texted Bill for approval, and yet another supportive spouse says go for it. Not wanting any room to back out or to lose a spot (Goofy spaces are limited.), we signed up that very night… with both of us on the phone… with cursors on the submit button, and on the count of three simultaneously registered online at the same time. I don’t think it will hit me until I see 90 days on the countdown clock, and it’s time for those 5 AM Saturday runs. I’m looking forward to it, Mel! And Scott, your encouragement, love and support is amazing. It’s what keeps me running when I want to stop! You Rock!
