Our Journey to Middle Earth

When it came time to decide our destination for the last two weeks Down Under, New Zealand was a must. Countless times we pressed the pause button while watching any one of the Lord of the Rings movies to stare in awe at the incredible scenery before us. Still to this day I can’t comprehend how the logistics of our trip manifested in just a few days. Booking flights, hotels, and car rentals as part of his job criteria, Scott had it all taken care. My job was to research our itinerary for each visiting city. First stop, Wellington. Then off to Christchurch and Queenstown. We have always found one of the best ways to explore a city is by booking tours, and not just any tour, but a TV or movie tour. We explored the ins and outs of Vancouver through a website called “X-Marks the Spot. (Yes, we are X-File fans). After googling “LOTR Tours”, we made our selections. The day before our flight to NZ, we had confirmation numbers for each tour except the one for Wellington. It was a bit stressful to wonder if we were good to go for our tour, but thankfully by the time we were leaving for our flight, we got the e-mail. Total flight time to New Zealand is four hours with a two hour time difference. (That’s a 16 hour time variation for Florida.) The flight went well. Our only issue was our arrival time. It was midnight by then, and the kids were punch drunk. Regardless, the children were fantastic. Everyone was thrilled to finally reach our hotel room.
